The read noise is: 6D = 2.9 electrons, 7D2 = 2.4 electrons. ![]() Say you did 10 minute exposures at ISO 1600. A 6D has about 1.1 electron /second dark current, while the 7D2 has only 0.07 electron/second dark current. Say your camera's sensor was running at 20C. Noise is the square root of the dark current * exposure time, whether you take one 100 minute exposure or 100 one-minute exposures. The noise from dark current is a function of the total exposure time, just like noise in your subject light frames. I think your are misunderstanding the noise effects of dark current. Some use 1 hour long subexposures to bring out really faint detail. Whereas with astro CCD imaging a 10 minute exposure is probably a minimum and often imagers use 15 minutes, sometimes 5 minutes with a fast scope. The low read noise of CMOS seems to be a very important quality. Longer exposures still work with narrowband filters. Dark current hasn't built up that much and the strategy is to leverage the low read noise with lots of stacking. I have seen really superb ASI1600 stacked images -20C sensor and 30-60 second exposures. So the strategy I see being used there is to take lots of short exposures and stack them. It is not hardware, only software post processing the raw file.Īnother argument to would be that dark current is still perhaps not that important on a CMOS sensor. For example the astro versions of cooled CMOS sensors (ASI1600 for example and competing models from QHY and Atik) which is a mono version of the OMD Em1 4/3 sensor has very low read noise. Is that some result of the Bayer matrix plus the microlenses? That is entirely a function of the raw converter: the Bayer de-mosaicking algorithm. Do you know why the noise is so wide per piece - like 5-10 pixels wide? The colour mottle that we battle with high ISO is some sort of combination of various noise sources. At those ISOs most sensors have very similar performance, whether Nikon, Canon, Sony (ignoring star eater). Very low light photography, as in astrophotography, needs a gain that digitizes tiny signals, and for DSLRs that is in the ISO 800 to 1600 range. This only applies at low ISOs and only applies to short exposure times. On sensor ADC in Sony's versus off sensor ADC like most Canons which meant more noise in shadows, ISOless sensors which seems to only be the case with Sony sensors adds an element of freedom to exposure choices are other features that may be as equal importance. So its the total noise that is the concern that everyone looks at when they compare cameras and of course rightly so as that is what you'll see in your final image. I mean in nightscapes no one really is doing darks/flats and biases or rarely. These are fast exposure times, so dark current is not a factor, and is not relevant to many second exposures. But if the Canon 7D2 is so low in dark current then why is the DPR studio comparison tool show it to no less noisy than many other cameras? That's why we might be interested in dark current On a warm night, the dark current could even become the main source of image noise. Thus the dark current is a significant contributor to image noise. So you would be accumulating dark current at the same rate as photons from the background sky. Now if the sensor temperature is 20C then the dark current will also be around 0.1e/pix/sec even on the very low dark current Canon 7D2. The blue pixels will accumulate skyglow electrons much slower, at say 0.1e/pix/sec. If the pixel size is 4microns, the lens (or telescope) is F5.6, the sensor QE is 50% and you are imaging under a dark sky of 21.6 mags/square_arcsec then your green pixels will accumulate electrons from the background skyglow at a rate of approximately 0.2electrons/pixel/sec. Let's suppose you are doing full colour astro-imaging with a DSLR. Why are we interested in dark current? Here's why, by means of an example. ![]() What we are interested in here is the end result, the accumulated noise from various electronic components and this is where the DPR Studio review tool is handy. I am not sure why you are concentrating on dark current in the first place. All these cameras have incredibly low dark current. ![]() 7/24/2023 0 Comments Software for budget planning![]() These include Performance Dashboards, Self-Serve Analytics, Formula-Free Financial Intelligence, Scenario Planning, Financial Consolidation, Variance Reporting, an Automated GL/ERP Data Integration, Business Health Insights, Rolling Forecasts, Working Planning and more. So suddenly that tiny key bridge creates a bridge in the regular world that allows the player to reach a house where Kenzie and Michael experienced their first house party together. The kicker here is that everything you place in one model appears in the other models, scaled up to the appropriate size. For example, a key may open a door in the life-sized maquette, or it can be used to bridge a gap in the tiny maquette. There is always a movable object in the world that is part of the next puzzle or series of puzzle solutions. The second maquette’s size is true to life and the final maquette is huge, dwarfing the player and making it a challenge to traverse and move objects about. The first is the teeny tiny model that you, in first person, can play with like an elaborate dollhouse. In Maquette, there are three models in play. A maquette (and yeah, I had to look this up) is a small scale model made of a structure or object that will become much bigger when it is finished, like an architectural model. The idea of the ‘maquette’ is introduced pretty much straight away. However, to uncover the full story of Michael and Kenzie, you need to earn it and that’s where the puzzles come in. The best I could hope for was to experience a mixture of the two. This video game that breaks down a past relationship using the aid of puzzle mechanics was either going to make me ugly cry or give me closure. Memories of his romantic endeavours with a girl named Kenzie come back when he finds the sketchbook they used to both draw in. However, during its opening cutscene, I realised that the game’s narrative is about Michael, the narrator, looking back on a relationship. So yeah, deep diving into this game which is also voiced by real life Hollywood couple Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World/The Help) and Seth Gabel (Fringe/Dirty, Sexy Money) probably wasn’t the best choice. ![]() ![]() At the moment, I can’t even listen to music because nearly every single song is about romance. ![]() I mean, you wouldn’t expect a person whose dog just ran away to review a dog walking simulator, would you?
